Judge David Gervais is an experienced and widely-respected judge with over 37 years of experience practicing law in McHenry County.
Judge Gervais serves as a McHenry County Circuit Judge of the Second District of Illinois’ Twenty-Second Judicial Circuit. He was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court in February 2018 after the Honorable Michael Caldwell retired from the position. Judge Gervais has been an attorney in Crystal Lake since 1982. Throughout his career, he has been involved in thousands of civil cases and hundreds of criminal cases.
Judge Gervais started his career in 1982 as a solo general practice attorney. He then became an Associate at Wardell and Johnson in 1984. In 1986, he became an Associate and Partner at Johnson, Gervais and Associates. Judge Gervais performed legal services in the areas of family law, criminal law, probate, estate planning, real estate and commercial law. He regularly represented debtors in United States Bankruptcy Court including adversarial hearings.
In 1991, Judge Gervais opened his own practice, the Law Offices of David R. Gervais in Crystal Lake. There he hired, trained, and directed a team of attorneys, staff, and administration. Judge Gervais built a strong reputation of achieving results and developing strong relationships, earning his firm a high success rate. The firm provides general legal services including matrimonial, felony criminal, misdemeanor traffic, probate, estate planning, business planning, and commercial litigation.
Judge Gervais has been involved in local public service for over 35 years. He has been a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and McHenry County Bar Association since 1982. He has had a visible role in the community as a leader and collaborator with organizations at the local, county, and state levels. Judge Gervais has assisted the disabled, poor, and those in need of food, housing, and legal assistance. Until his judicial appointment, he served as a Republican Precinct Committeeman for over 25 years.
Judge Gervais received his Bachelor’s Degree from Bucknell University and his Juris Doctorate from Chicago-Kent College of Law. At law school, he was a Richard Gorenz Scholarship recipient and a member of the Ethics Committee and International Law Society.
David and his wife, Susan, live in Crystal Lake. They have three adult children, four grandchildren, four dogs, and three cats. He and his wife attend St. Peter and Paul Catholic Parish in Cary. When not working, you can find him doing one of his hobbies which include golfing, woodworking, bee keeping, sailing, bicycling, and collecting fountain pens and watches.
